Deck Pricing: What to Expect

At Hinton Construction, we specialize in creating high-end custom decks designed to fit your individual tastes, aesthetic, and budget. Below is a summary of the standard price ranges for our projects, providing you with a better understanding of what to expect:

CURRENT AVERAGES

We build decks starting at around $10,000 and up, with many projects ranging from $30,000 to $200,000 or more, depending on the scope and complexity of the design. Here’s a closer look at the pricing breakdown:
- $15,000 for a pressure treated deck with builder grade guardrails.
- $20,000 for a pressure treated deck with nicer, hog wire type guardrails.
- $30,000+ for a composite deck with powder coated steel or aluminum guardrails.

PRESSURE-TREATED DECKS

Our recent pressure-treated decks have averaged around $33,500, with a typical range between $24,000 and $56,000. These decks offer an excellent combination of affordability and durability, making them a popular choice for many homeowners.

COMPOSITE DECKS

Composite decks, which are low-maintenance and highly durable, typically cost between $56,000 and $80,000. Our most recent composite deck projects averaged $68,250. While we had one project that reached $220,000, this was an exceptional case, and most composite decks fall within the ranges mentioned.

Factors that affect Deck Pricing

Size of the Deck: The larger the deck, the more materials and labor required. We work with you to design a deck that fits your space and lifestyle while keeping your budget in mind.

Material Choices: We offer a variety of decking materials to suit different preferences and budgets. Pressure-treated lumber is typically more affordable, while composite decking and PVC options tend to be more expensive but offer superior durability and low maintenance.

Deck Design and Features: Custom features like multi-level decks, built-in seating, railings, or lighting can increase the cost of your deck. Our design team will help you explore options that meet your vision while staying within your budget.

Site Preparation: The condition of your yard or property may impact pricing. If your site requires significant preparation (such as leveling or removing old structures), it could add to the overall cost.

Labor: Our team of skilled professionals ensures that your deck is built to the highest standards. Labor costs are factored into the final quote, based on the complexity and size of your project.

How we price your deck

After understanding your vision and requirements, we’ll provide you with a custom quote that accounts for the factors listed above. Our pricing is transparent with no hidden fees, ensuring you have a complete understanding of the costs before any work begins. We give detailed quotes, listing each item or phase individually instead of one lump sum, which makes it easier to adjust or modify certain line items since you’ll know exactly what each part costs.

We offer a range of options to fit different budgets, from budget-friendly pressure-treated decks to high-end composite or PVC decks, assisting you in choosing materials that meet your desires and expectations.

Our pricing is built into a proprietary system that’s updated monthly based on material, labor, and overhead costs. We do not adjust our pricing based on anything else. No *“lake effect” here, just honest, transparent, and upfront pricing.

*Lake effect is the tendency of some contractors to charge more to customers who they think can afford to pay more.

ADDITIONAL COSTS
Permits: Depending on your location and the size of your project, you may need a permit for deck construction. We can guide you through the process and handle all permits and inspections.

Maintenance: While we use durable materials, certain decks (like wood) may require more maintenance over time, which could impact long-term costs.

frequently asked questions

A new deck can range anywhere from $10,000 to $70,000 depending on the size, complexity and materials involved. Our average new deck price is $35,000.

Generally, we can provide quotes within a week or 5 business days.

It depends on the size and scope of work and material availability. Shipping times and seasonal demands impact lead time, which could be up to a few months when in high demand. Often, we can schedule smaller projects sooner than larger projects. In general, our construction scheduling window can vary from a few weeks to a few months depending on the time of year.

The quality of our builds generally exceeds that of most residential builders both in design and longevity. Because of this, we generally do not build projects for other general contractors as our cost generally exceeds what the industry calls “builder grade”.
